Edna Marie McCree-Weekly passed on Tuesday November 9, 2010 surrounded by loving family in her home in Mesa, Arizona. Edna was a loving wife,mother,daughter, sister,aunt and friend to many. Edna loved teaching children and sharing the goodness of Jesus Christ with anyone she came in contact with. Edna was born in Berkley, California to George and Johnnie McCree May 2, 1952. Edna married the love of her life, Carlos Weekly in 1976 and they have four young ladies. Edna secured her bachelor,MA and Ed.D degrees with a focus on education. Edna moved to AZ in 1982 from Portland, Oregon. Edna was known for sharing valuable words of wisdom in song, conversation and humor. Edna could be seen dressed in pearls,with a warm smile that encouraged kind heartedness which will ring in the hearts of those who loved her. Edna was the Principal of Eastside Christian School, Asst. Principal at Sun Valley Middle and High School and most recently the Principal at Crossroads Focus School where she encouraged everyone to do something for someone, such as an elderly person or child. Edna was a longtime member of 1st Pentecostal Church and served in various capacities including Evangelist. When not at school working with children or home with her family, Edna was known for her outreaching spirit to many, from sponsoring annual Christmas parties, to visiting the sick in hospitals and chemotherapy rooms, to using her talent in support of church health fair events. Edna is survived by her Mother Johnnie Mae McCree-Welsh (Castle),husband Carlos and their daughters Kellie Weekly-Strong, Corrie Reva McCree-Weekly, Mercedes Marie McCree-Weekly, Brian and Julianna Willea (McCree-Weekly) Anuma and siblings George McCree II, Jona Graham, Jessie Welsh-Alexis,Clifton Welsh Jr, Mary Welsh, and grandson Jaden Strong. Preceding her in death was her father George McCree I her brother Morrell McCree and stepfathers Clifton Welsh Sr and William Castle Sr. She also leaves her Godfather Deacon Clinton Hendrix and several family members, friends and loved ones. Contributions can be sent in her name to the Cancer Foundation of your choice.
Home going services for Edna will begin on Friday November 19th for the wake at Angels Cremation and Burial 422 W. McClellan Road, Mesa Az from 5pm to 7pm. The funeral will be on Saturday November 20th at First Pentecostal Church 2701 E. Marguerite Ave, Phoenix, Az . Viewing will be at 10am and the service starts at 11am.
