RANDALL Marvin PITCHER
11/23/1960 - 08/31/2019
MESA, AZ
Randall “Randy” Marvin Pitcher died peacefully at home August 31, 2019 of metastatic cancer in Mesa, AZ at the age of 58.
Randy is the son of Ronald Marvin Pitcher and Beverly Yvonne Henderson Pitcher. He was born in Sacramento CA on 11/23/1960. Because his father was Air Force, he and his sister enjoyed life as “Air Force Brats” and he was always grateful for that experience. He was able to see many parts of the world and spent much of his time in Asia, especially Japan. He enjoyed sports and was an avid golfer at a young age. He enjoyed bowling. He played softball and, you guessed it, he was a pitcher. He obtained a black belt in Karate in Okinawa Japan. He did graduate High School state side in Manchester Iowa in 1979. Randy served his country in the Marines. He signed up while his parents were on vacation, what a surprise that was for them. He did a four year tour and spent his time on the USS Midway and was known for being a sharp shooter. He graduated from Chico State University in California with a degree in computer programming. After graduating, he worked at System Integrators in Sacramento California. Randy moved to Arizona in 1995 he worked for the Arizona Republic newspaper and at Sybase as a programmer. He later returned to school and sought a degree in Veterinary Technology and thoroughly enjoyed his change in vocation. He enjoyed being an emergency technician and inventory specialist at Arizona Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Center.
Randy is survived by his mother Beverly Pitcher of Palermo California and his sister Cathy Pitcher Adams also of Palermo. He is survived by his beloved wife Cinthia McCulley-Pitcher of Mesa AZ. He is preceded in death by his father Ronald Pitcher in Palermo California.
Randy was accomplished at many skills including chainmaille, stained glass, wood working, artful sand blasting and often donated items to help with community projects. He was a man of few words and had a magnanimous heart. Although he was a quiet, gentle man, he had a wicked sense of humor, if you were lucky enough to know him well enough to see it. Co-workers describe him as a calm presence in stressful situations. He is known for his intelligence and teaching ability and his vet tech classmates attribute their ability to pass physics to Randy. Little known fact, Randy was a member of Mensa. He was humble and never let on that he was a member (his wife found out by accident finding Mensa Bulletins in the home). Randy married his soul mate on Halloween, 2008. Randy, a veterinarian technician and Cindi, a registered nurse had a delightful life together and often compared their work days. Randy always told her that he had to be more intelligent, because he had to know more species. He found that less humorous when Cindi shared that with nurses that entered his hospital room.
Randy has been active in the pagan community of Phoenix AZ and was a member of the Wanderer Kindred of Mesa.
A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, September 6, 2019 from 1 PM to 4PM at Red Mountain Library 635 N Power Rd. Mesa, AZ 85205. Vincent and Dani Enlund will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Randy’s life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Hospice of the Valley or Raven Pines Animal Rescue.
