Lori Mason Poland October 3, 1948 – April 28, 2020
Lori (Lorraine) Mason Poland was born October 3, 1948 in Mason City, IA to John Vincent and Beatrice Henrietta (Conrin) Mason. When Lori was in 4th grade her mother married Virgil Sabin who accepted her as a daughter.
In 1967 she graduated from Newman High School in Mason City, IA. She continued her education at St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Rochester, MN and received her degree in Nursing. Lori married Mick McDonald in Feb of 1969. To this union their two sons Jeff and Chris were born. She and Mick moved to Omaha, NE where she began her nursing career. In the 1980’s the family moved to Scottsdale, AZ and Lori obtained an Arizona Real Estate License. With a more flexible work schedule in real estate she had more time to support Jeff and Chris in school and sport activities.
Lori and Greg Poland were married April 23, 2002. They made their home in Mason City, Iowa. She continued her nursing career in care facilities and at the VA clinics in Mason City. When Greg accepted a pharmacist position in Arizona they moved to Surprise, AZ. She accepted a nursing position with the Defense Dept at Luke Air Force Base. She retired from there in October of 2014.
Lori was known for her excellence in embroidering and cross stitching. She also loved to read. Lori took pride in her home and decorated extensively for all the holidays. Friends and family enjoyed her wonderful holiday dinners and hospitality. She loved her family very much and was proud of her sons. Both of her grandsons and Greg’s children and grandchildren were also important in her life. They could always expect a special occasions gift and she always made sure they knew she loved them.
Those Lori left behind that will miss her dearly include her husband Greg; son Jeff McDonald (Deb) daughter Cassie(Kyle) and their son Maxwell ; grandson Michael McDonald-Riddell; son Chris McDonald; grandson Christopher; Greg’s daughter Jenelle Klesel (Dennis); granddaughters Brenna, Emily and Gracie; Greg’s son Chris Poland (Annie); granddaughter Jamie and grandson Evan; Greg’s son Michael Poland; mother-in law Dorothy Poland; Greg’s brother Merle (Karen) Katie and Drew; special niece Lauri Mason-Nelson and great niece Taylor and great nephew Chase; and nieces, nephews; cousins and many dear friends.
Lori was preceded in death by her father Vincent Mason, mother Beatrice Sabin, stepfather Virgil Sabin, brother Larry Mason, father-in-law Clifford Poland and her biggest joy her Golden Retriever Barkley.
Lori will always be remembered as kind, caring, loving, generous and compassionate.
A memorial service will be set at later date.
