Linda was born November 10, 1951 to Frank Ralph Delmor and Phyllis McDougall Nichols at McDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida. After attending school in Bellevue, Washington, Santa Maria, California, and Grand Forks, North Dakota, Linda graduated from Charles M. Russell High School, ranking 16 out of 454, in Great Falls, Montana, where she was selected Junior Class Secretary; Princess for Homecoming, Winter Formal and Junior/Senior Prom; and Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow for the State of Montana her senior year.
In September 1969, she began elementary education/math studies on a full scholarship at Bethel College in St. Paul, Minnesota, where she met the love of her life, Ronald Skon. Their first date on a Friday night was followed by four dates with four other guys that same weekend. That was a new experience for Ron, and he was highly motivated to win over her heart. Ron proposed to Linda at Mounds Park on a bluff overlooking the Mississippi River on May 26,1970. They were married on August 14, 1971, and honeymooned at the Chateau Lake Louise near Banff, Alberta, Canada. Linda graduated with highest honors from Bethel in 1973. Ron and Linda were recognized as a couple for Bethel’s The Decade Award in 1981, marking the only time a couple has been recognized for a national alumni award in Bethel’s 155-year history.
While teaching first grade for five years in her first job at Valentine Hills Elementary School in Arden Hills, Minnesota, Linda went on to earn a Masters and PhD in Social Psychology. In 1979, just weeks after Linda presented her PhD dissertation, she gave birth to their daughter, Alyssa, a week before graduation. Two years later, their son, Mike, was born. By that time Linda was a district-level administrator and went on to serve as assistant executive director for ESCU and Metro II, two regional support co-ops.
In 1986, the Skons moved to Mesa, Arizona. Linda worked at Mesa Public Schools District Office, improving secondary school testing and instruction. She taught one year at Zedo Ishikawa Elementary School while applying for law school. At Arizona State University College of Law, she was a Methods and Writing Instructor and well liked by her professors and classmates. She was also Managing Editor of the Arizona State Law Journal.
After graduating cum laude with a JD in 1996, Linda served as a Law Clerk in the United States Attorney’s Office, as a Judicial Clerk in the Supreme Court of Arizona, and as an attorney in three law firms before opening her own law office. She retired in September 2019 as a United States District Court Attorney, having served for the Honorable Neil Vincent Wake. Her Bar Admissions included the State Bar of Arizona, the United States District Court, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Supreme Court of the United States.
In 2018, Linda’s grandson, Hudson, was born. Linda found great joy in spending time with Hudson, learning about black holes, dancing, and laughing together.
Linda will be remembered for her intellect, her beauty inside and out, and her unfailing love for the Lord, her family, and her friends.
Linda is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Ronald Skon; her daughter, Alyssa Skon; her son, Mike Skon; her grandson, Hudson Phillips; her sister, Constance Bissett (Steve); her brother, Lance Delmor (Stacy); her sister-in-law, Trish Fung (Tom); and many cousins, nephews, and nieces special to her.
